Rules, Regulations & World Rankings

1. Participation

1.1 Participation at any one of the World Pro-Am DanceSport Series events will earn you points to determine your Regional & World Ranking.

1.2 Teachers competing in the series must have their NDCA dues up to date and posted on NDCA website. If not, they will forfeit all winnings for themselves and their students.

1.3 Competitors winning awards must be present at the awards presentation at Ohio Star Ball, or they will forfeit their awards. (Exception – Medical reasons or Death in the Family in writing)

1.3.1 To receive the Top Teacher and Rising Star Teacher prize money. The teacher must compete at the Ohio Star Ball with 25 entries or more and be on the package with the Ohio Star Ball.

1.4 There is only one official list of events, that is one on the website, events by regions. If events cancel or does not sent in their scores, World Pro-Am DanceSport Series is not responsible.

2. Leaderboard

2.1 A leader board will be used to keep the up to date status of your world ranking. This will be viewed on our website: www.dancesportseries.com

3. Honors | Prizes

3.1 Individual honors will be based on accumulation of your entries, callbacks, placement and bonus points earned throughout the 2014 Series Events.

3.2 Top honors will be given at the 2014 Ohio Star Ball to:

3.2.1 Top 10 Teachers

3.2.2 Top 6 Rising Star Teachers

3.2.3 Top 3 over all Pro-Am Male Students

3.2.4 Top 3 over all Pro-Am Female Students

3.2.5 Top 3 over all Student-Student

3.2.6 Top Studio

3.3 Top Teacher Prizes

1st. $30,000.
2nd. $15,000.
3rd. $10,000.
4th. $6,000.
5th. $5,000.
6th. $4,000.
7th. $3,500.
8th. $3,000.
9th. $2,500.
10th. $2,000.

To receive the Top Teacher prize money. The teacher must compete at the Ohio Star Ball with 25 entries or more and be on the package with the Ohio Star Ball.

3.4 Top Rising Star Teacher Prizes

1st. $2,000.
2nd. $1,800.
3rd. $1,600.
4th. $1,400.
5th. $1,200.
6th. $1,000.


3.5 Top 3 over all Pro-Am Male Students; Top 3 over all Pro-Am Male Students;
Top 3 over all Student-Student, will receive vouchers worth.

1st. $600.
2nd. $500.
3rd. $400.


3.6 Team Match - All students of teams will receive vouchers worth.

1st. $600.
2nd. $500.
3rd. $400.
4th. $300.
5th. $200.
6th. $200.
7th. $200.

To receive the Top Rising Star Teacher prize money. The teacher must compete at the Ohio Star Ball with 25 entries or more and be on the package with the Ohio Star Ball

4.   Vouchers

4.1 Accumulation of points earned from callbacks and placements will determine the top 20 students at a World Pro-Am DanceSport Series Events.

4.2 Top 20 students will each receive a $100 voucher.

4.3 A maximum of $300. in total can be used at one event.

4.4 Vouchers can be used only towards Pro/Am entries.

4.5 A student must spend twice the value of the voucher in order to receive credit.

4.6 Vouchers can be used only out of your region. (Regional status is based on the state you live in).

4.7 Voucher(s) must be redeemed at the time of registration for the event.

4.8 Voucher(s) expire(s) from 1 year of issue.

4.9 Vouchers are non-transferable.

4.10 Vouchers cannot be replaced if lost.

5. To Qualify for Rising Star Teacher

5.1 If you ever placed in top ten DSS Top Teacher category since the beginning of the Series and received money your not eligible.

5.2 You are not eligible if your in top ten DSS Top Teacher category for the current Series year.

5.3 Scoring will be based upon the current series year scores.

5.4 You must notify Gary Spencer before Friday Nov. 21, 2014 at DanceSportSeries@gmail.com. That you will present at the Ohio Star Ball 2014 to receive the award. A return confirmation email number will be given.

5.5 To check your eligibility for Rising Star Teacher In Eligibile Teacher.

6. World ProAm DanceSport Series Team Match Qualification

6.1 North America is divided into 4 regions. USA-East, USA-Central, USA-West, & Canada.

6.2 Each regional team will consist of 8 couples, in each of the four styles:
Smooth-2 couples, Rhythm-2 couples, Standard-2 couples, Latin-2 couples.

6.3 Points will be based on accumulation of callbacks and placements earned throughout the 2014 Series Events starting with the Oct. 2013 events and ending with Sept. 2014 events.

6.4Age qualification is based on the real age of the student. Students may participate in any age group at Series Events. The Series leaderboard will only post the real age group of the student. The other age groups will not count or appear on the leaderboard.

6.5 Teacher can be represented more than once.

6.6 Should there be a tie between two students for Team Match eligibility, we will review the placements of the tied students for the entire World Pro-Am DanceSport Series season. The Student with the majority of “wins” will break the tie and become the official member of the Regional Team.

7. Point Accumulation System

7.1 Pro/Am Teacher:

7.1.2 Will have an accumulating ranking system, based on points, from the following paragraph’s 2,3,4,5,& 6.

7.2. Pro Am Showcase or solos exhibitions will receive 1pt. per enter. (Effective Atlanta Open 2013. Showcase or solos exhibitions will no longer receive 1pt. per entey.)

7.3 Pro Am Single or 2 Dance Competitive Entries: (Effective Atlanta Open 2013)

1st. 8 pts.
2nd. 7 pts.
3rd. 6 pts.
4th. 5 pts.
5th. 4 pts.
6th. 3 pts.
7th. 2 pts.
8th. 1pt.

Each and every recall from preliminary rounds 4 pts.
Uncontested will be 1/2 point

7.4 Pro/Am Adult 3, 4 or 5 Dance Competitive Entries: (Effective Atlanta Open 2013)

1st. 20 pts.
2nd. 15 pts.
3rd. 10 pts.
4th. 8 pts.
5th. 6 pts.
6th. 4 pts.
7th. 2 pts.
8th. 2 pts.

Each and every recall from preliminary rounds 5 pts.

7.5 Qualifying Team Match Points.

1st. 30 pts.
2nd. 20 pts
3rd. 15 pts.
4th. 10 pts
5th. 8 pts.
6th. 6 pts.
7th. 4 pts.
8th. 4 pts.

Each and every recall from preliminary rounds 6 pts.

7.6 For every Student that competes at a World Pro-Am DanceSport Series Event
and does:

10 Entries Teacher and Student receive 100 Bonus Points*
20 Entries Teacher and Student receives 200 Bonus Points*
30 Entries Teacher and Student receives 300 Bonus Points*
40 Entries Teacher and Student receives 400 Bonus Points*
50 Entries Teacher and Student receives 500 Bonus Points*


7.7 The Teacher will receive 50 Bonus Points* for every student that dances in a World Pro/Am Dancesport Series Qualifying Team Match Event throughout the year.

7.7.1 The Student will receive 50 Bonus Points* for every danced style in a World Pro/Am Dancesport Series Qualifying Team Match Event throughout the year. (As of Danse Montreal de danse sportive 2013)

7.8 The teacher will receive 200 Bonus Points* for every student he/she competes with on the Regional Team for the World Pro/Am Dancesport Series Team Match in November at the Ohio Star Ball.

7.9 **Please Note: in fairness to our participating Professionals, these bonus points will only be awarded to those Teachers who are competing with their own students at World Pro/Am Dancesport Series events. Professionals who dance with other Professional’s students are not eligible to receive bonus points.

7.10 Pre-Teens, Juniors & Youth:

7.10.1 If couples or Pro/Ams pay full fees they receive same as adult entries if couples or Pro/Am’s pay reduced fees they receive 1/2 point if couples or Pro/Am’s pay no fees they receive no points

7.10.2 Students entered in special categories will receive half points.

7.11 Will have an accumulating ranking system, based on points, from one World Pro/Am Dancesport Series event to another.

7.12 The Top Students & Student/Student:

7.12.1 Will accumulate points based upon the same system as Top Teachers. These points will accumulate from one World Pro/Am Dancesport Series event to another towards Top Awards for the year.

7.13 Top Studio Award:

7.13.1 To qualify, you must have a minimum of two teachers competing in Pro/Am.

7.13.2 There will be six placements.

7.13.3 Multi owned studios with different locations, can not combine scores.

7.13.4 The points will be awarded as follows:
Points based upon the same system as Top Teachers.

7.14 All entries must be danced at World Pro/Am Dancesport Series events to receive points.

7.15 A student who competes in all seven regions will receive 1,000 bonus points at the end of the series.

7.16 Fordney Foundation Junior & Youth DanceSport Series.

7.16.1Age groups that qualify are based on the National Dance Council of America (NDCA) age groups :

Pre-Teen I: 9th birthday or less
Pre-Teen II: 10th or 11th birthday
Junior I: 12th or 13th birthday
Junior II: 14th or 15th birthday
Youth: 16th, 17, or 18th birthday

It is the responsibility of the couples competing in the Fordney Foundation Junior & Youth DanceSport Series to notify World ProAm DanceSports Series of their age and when they change age groups. By using the Discrepancy Report Form on the website.

7.16.2 Fordney Foundation Junior & Youth DanceSport Series Point Accumulation System

Points will be based on 3 or more dances in the multi dance categories only.
Every 1st Place = 20 points
Every 2nd Place = 15 points
Every 3rd Place = 10 points
Every 4th Place = 8 points
Every 5th Place = 6 points
Every 6th Place = 4 points
Every 7th Place = 2 points
Every 8th Place = 2 points
Each Call Back = 5 points

Tabulation in scoring will begin at the Ohio Star Ball November 2014 and at designated World Pro Am Dancesport Series Events and at end at the last designated event before the Ohio Star Ball 2015 on the WDSS 2014 calendar.. See our website for those designated events.

7.16.3 Fordney Foundation Junior & Youth DanceSport Series Top 10 Awards in the Latin and Standard.

1st. $4,000.
2nd. $2,000.
3rd. $1,000.
4th. $750.
5th. $500.
6th. $450.
7th. $400.
8th. $350.
9th. $300.
10th. $250.

Couples must be present and compete at the Ohio Star Ball to recieve the awards.

7.16.4 Fordney Foundation Junior & Youth DanceSport Series Team Match Eastcoast vs Westcoast

Team Match composed of 10 couples on each team.
1st. Placed Team $3,000 ($300. per couple)
2nd. Placed Team $2,000 ($200. per couple)

8. Discrepancies • Grievance • Penalties

8.1 Any discrepancies in scoring or point accumulation must be reported in writing by using the Discrepancy Report Form on the website.

8.2 Discrepancies must be filed no later than 30 days after the event posted date on the Leader Board. If not, points will not count.

8.3 We will not accept telephone calls, email, word of mouth, FaceBook or Twitter. It must be in writing using the Discrepancy Report Form on the website.

8.4 Please do not contact Mr. Sodano regarding any type of discrepancies or grievance regarding World Pro/Am Dancesport Series. Use the Discrepancy Report Form on the website.

8.5 Teachers and students are subject to forfeiture of all points and awards for unsportsman like conduct, for each infraction.

8.6 All discrepancies must be filed before Ohio Star Ball week. No discrepancies will be taken at Ohio Star Ball.
